Owen Wilson Swings Big in Apple TV+ Comedy
Can a washed-up golf legend make a comeback and stay out of trouble? Apple TV+ thinks so-with Owen Wilson leading the charge.
Apple has dropped the first trailer for "Stick," a new half-hour sports comedy debuting 7 June on Apple TV+. The series stars Owen Wilson as Rowan "Stick" Stickland, a former golf champion whose talent is rivalled only by his talent for self-sabotage.
Created by Jason Keller (Ford v Ferrari), Stick is also executive produced by Wilson. The 10-episode series follows Stick as he attempts a redemption arc on the senior tour, but his antics-and old habits-threaten to sink his comeback before it begins.
Joining Wilson are stars like Peter Dager (Bottoms), Academy Award-nominee Sally Kirkland, and Golden Globe-winner Stephen Root (Barry). Episodes drop weekly, with the first two arriving at launch.
This marks another high-profile comedy push for Apple, following recent originals like Shrinking and Platonic.
The series could strike a chord with fans of Ted Lasso-style redemption stories, blending sports with dysfunctional character charm.
For time-pressed viewers, the 30-minute format makes this ideal for a quick laugh without the binge burden. And with Owen Wilson's signature laid-back energy, Stick may offer Apple TV+ a summer hit that leans into irreverence without losing its emotional centre.
Stick could be the comedy wildcard Apple needs this summer.
